John Back graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Architecture in 2003. He then went on to earn his Master of Architecture in 2005, receiving the Distinguished Graduate Research Award, as well as a Certificate in Historic Preservation.
John’s professional practice has focused primarily on hospitality and residential work, specifically in historic, urban settings. In 2009 he helped found a local hospitality company, and as a partner wore many hats—serving always as designer and owner’s representative, but sometimes as general contractor and laborer. Joining ArchitectsPlus in 2017, he brings not only an architectural design perspective to his work, but the perspective of a business owner and operator.
In his free time, John pursues his two passions—urbanism and old buildings. He currently serves on the Board of Housing Appeals for the City of Cincinnati and is renovating his third residential building in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. John also enjoys spending time with family, and looks forward to the birth of his first child—a baby boy—with wife Mercedeh in 2018.
